2017 CWS Kits Challenge

CHURCH WORLD SERVICE KITS CHALLENGE 2017

THE RESULTS

CWS KITS Collection Reaches HIGH
WOW, Blackhawk Presbytery!
Our totals this year represent an amazing amount of hard work (hunting down that bottle of concentrated disinfectant), dedication (sewing those school bags) and generosity (after giving, how many say "I can get those 6 rulers").

Your efforts make a difference - THANK YOU to everyone from donors to packers to loaders and haulers!
  • 1502 School Kits
  • 622 Hygiene Kits
  • 264* Emergency Clean Up Buckets!!!
* Surely an all time high for buckets, the price to assemble them means this year was probably the highest ever!

THE CHALLENGE

To all the churches in Blackhawk Presbytery:

The Presbyterian Women of Winnebago First Presbyterian Church, Winnebago, IL are issuing this challenge:

WILL EACH CONGREGATION MAKE AT LEAST….

25 SCHOOL KITS AND 10 HYGIENE KITS

Fairbury First, Fairbury, IL has recently witnessed flooding in their area and is challenging us to make:

10 CLEAN-UP BUCKETS

We have learned from Church World Service there is great need for school kits and clean-up buckets at this time!  Whatever kits and amounts you are able to provide are greatly appreciated!  Exceeding the challenge is always a plus!

Kit brochures with details for all three kits will be available at Presbytery meetings or can be ordered from the Church World Service website, cwskits.org.  If your church group is sewing the School Kit bags, they should be made of solid-colored fabric with no logos or the bags can be purchased through myshopangel.com.

Your kits will be collected at the November Presbytery meeting at Stronghold.  Please bring the kits in SEALED boxes, marked with the name and address of your church and the kind and quantity of kits inside – school kits and hygiene kits need to be in separate boxes.  Clean-up buckets do not need to be in boxes, but should have the name and address of your church taped to the outside.  Please tape the buckets closed.  A gift of $2.00 per kit ($3.00 for buckets) made out to Church World Service can be brought in November.  These funds help get the kits into the hands of those in need. MORE DETAILS HERE.

At the November 2016 Presbytery meeting held at Stronghold, the kits were collected and taken by CWS for sorting and distribution to those in need.  The numbers of each kit included 1,053 School Kits, 541 Hygiene Kits and 34 Clean-up Buckets.  Many of you continue to exceed the challenge amounts – let’s try to increase our totals in 2017!!  CWS is so grateful to all in Blackhawk Presbytery for being a part of this world wide ministry!!
