Presbyterian Women

The purpose of Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery of Blackhawk is to strengthen the program of Presbyterian Women in each congregation within the bounds of the presbytery, relating them to Presbyterian Women in the Synod of Lincoln Trails and to Presbyterian Women in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and together striving to fulfill the common purpose:
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
to support the mission of the church worldwide,
to work for justice and peace, and
to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA)
and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

News & Information:

The PWP CT (officers) met July 10th and one of the topics discussed was the Fall Gathering.  It was decided that for the health and safety of everyone that the gathering be held virtually via Zoom.  Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 10, 2020 and all your PW members are invited to attend.  PLEASE READ MORE.

Quarterly Remittances are due on March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1. Thank you!

Women from across the Presbytery of Blackhawk continue to make handmade quilts, lap robes, prayer shawls, afghans and tied fleece blankets for the ministry that first began when tornadoes struck our presbytery in 2015. We encourage you to use these in your own congregations and communities as needs arise with opportunities to share God's love with something made with prayers and love. If you have fabric, thread, yarn, etc. to share with those looking for materials to work with, let us know!
When bringing completed blankets to a Presbytery Meeting or a Gathering of Presbyterian Women, please let us know which church has donated them.
Contact Beverly Scharlau if you have questions or would like to participate in the Cozy Blanket Ministry (815-667-4970 or e-mail:

All are invited to participate in the Blackhawk Presbyterian Women's Cozy Blanket Ministry. This is not a Church World Service program, but a ministry intended to leverage the wonderful skills and hearts of our women to meet needs locally. Blankets are presented as gifts of love to neighbors in need who may be recovering from disaster or trauma. All shapes and sizes and types are welcome, lap blankets and prayer shawls included. They must be new/un-used and may be knitted, crocheted, quilted, knotted, embroidered, or otherwise hand- or machine sown. If you would like to help with this ongoing ministry project, please contact (insert the name of your local PW leader) or Beverly Scharlau, 815-667-4970 or e-mail: There is information available about the new ministry on the Presbytery website (please include the link).
