November 2011 Presbytery Meeting

Meeting Summary

Blackhawk Presbytery met Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Stronghold Camp & Retreat Center, Oregon, IL.  The worship service was lead by general presbyter Rev. John Rickard, stated clerk/treasurer Rev. John Huff, and presbytery moderator Rev. Mike Wey.  Rev. Wey preached the sermon.  Church World Service Kits donated by Blackhawk Presbytery congregations were dedicated during the service.
 
Rev. John Huff, who is leaving his positions as Stated Clerk & Treasurer at the end of this year, was recognized with cakes, gifts, and a memory book.  Marian DeWall, retiring Stronghold International Gift Shop manager, was recognized and thanked, as was retiring Recording Clerk Karen McClenthen.
 
Commissioned Ruling Elder Chrystal Abbott (Manteno First) was elected and installed as moderator of the presbytery.  Rev. Jeff Borgerson (Harvard First) was elected and installed as vice-moderator.  Rev. John Rickard was elected and installed as interim stated clerk and Elder Lou Ann Breckenridge (Rockford Westminster) was elected and installed as Treasurer.  Moderators and members of commissions, boards, and committees were also elected and installed.
 
During the business plenary, the presbytery
  • celebrated the service of Rev. Dr. Dale Dykstra (Mendota First) and Rev. Dr. Stan Bomgarden (Fulton) as they retire at the end of the year;
  • approved the Committee on Ministry to become the Commission on Ministry as the new form of government is implemented;
  • approved an installation commission for Rev. Judith March Hardie to be installed at Caledonia Willow Creek on November 6
  • dissolved the relationship between Rev. Lori Keller-Schroeder and First Presbyterian Church, St. Anne
  • approved a new Memorandum of Understanding between Blackhawk Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church of East Africa Imenti North, Central, and South presbyteries;
  • approved the budget for the presbytery for 2012;
  • heard a first reading of an amendment to the Stronghold Endowment Fund to be voted on at the February 14, 2012 meeting.
